ALUMNI AREA
While a significant number of our alumni go on to pursue a musical
careers as symphonic players and/or teachers, the vast majority
of BSS graduates have embarked on a wide variety of career paths.
Since our first senior graduated high school in 1981, over 150
BSS students have matriculated from our program. 30% of BSS Graduates
went on to study Music in College; 10% went on to became doctors
and lawyers.
BSS Alumni frequently attribute their success to the work ethic
and pursuit of excellence developed during their years at Buffalo
Suzuki Strings. 15% of BSS Graduates are employed as music professionals
and are currently members of the
Houston Symphony Orchestra, the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra,
the Symphony Orchestra of Asturias, Spain and the Toronto Symphony
Orchestra.
BSS graduates are also locally employed as music educators in
the Amherst School District, Clarence School District, West Seneca
School District and Williamsville School District.
BSS students also take an active role in their school and community
orchestras while they are in the BSS Program. For 10 out of the
past 27 years, the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra Concertmaster
has been a student at BSS. On the average, over 1/3 of the GBYO
Violists and Cellists are BSS students, and generally 2/3 of the
GBYO 1st and 2nd Violinists.
BSS trained violinists in the Erie County Music Educators Association
Elementary and Middle School Festival Orchestras comprise of 33%
to 50% of the ECMEA string players; 50% of the violists and 25%
of the cellists. Of the ECMEA High School Orchestra members 33%
are currently BSS students; 50% have studied at with BSS at one
time or another.
